Digipak Research - Taylor Swift 'Red'

The background is defocused which makes us pay more attention to the artist and the shadows from her hat create mystery. She is looking down as though she is looking at the title 'Red' which draws our attention to focus on the bold writing. Her lips are also in red which help it stand out and create a further connection to her album. The choice of using red may be a representation of the title but it could also be an indication of love and passion which is usually the topic of her songs. The use of white for her name could signify her innocenceOverall the album is very simple with warm lighting that connotes simplicity in her songs and presents her genre as a country-pop artist well.

The songs are written all around the disk with production company and studio logos, title of the album and artist's name so you still have the necessary information even if you lose the other things in the digipak. This is also another way of recognition and branding by using the same font and colours. It has 5 red stripes across half of the disk which relates back to the album title to keep the consistency of the digipak.

The back of the album features a low angle shot of Taylor Swift which makes her appear to be more dominant - like she owns this album. Again mystery is added by the use of sunglasses hiding her eyes just like the shadows on the front cover. The songs are written in white with red stripes underneath which helps keep the consistency of the white and red colour scheme and the stripes from the CD.

Instead of the original digipak itself, she also released a 'limited edition' digipak that includes extra things like guitar pickers with the album's design or her face and other booklets that features more of her pictures. This is a way of promoting more sales by luring the audience to physically get the album instead of buying or downloading the songs online.
